While the human identity is built upon a myriad of different traits and abilities, there is nothing more recognizable about us than that tendency to improve on a consistent basis. Our inclination towards growth is so significant because it has already fetched the world some huge milestones, with technology emerging as quite a major member of the group. The reason why we hold technology in such a high regard is, by and large, predicated upon its skill-set, which guided us towards a reality that nobody could have ever imagined otherwise. Nevertheless, if we look beyond the surface for a second, it will become clear how the whole runner was also very much inspired from the way we applied those skills across a real world environment. The latter component, in fact, did a lot to give the creation a spectrum-wide presence, and as a result, kickstart a full-blown tech revolution. Of course, this revolution then went on to scale up the human experience through some outright unique avenues, but even after achieving such a pivotal feat, technology will somehow keep on delivering the right goods. The same has turned more and more evident in recent times, and assuming one new constructed-themed move shakes out just like we envision, it will only put that trend on a higher pedestal moving forward.
Caterpillar has officially launched its all-new RM600 and RM800 reclaimer/stabilizers, with both the machines focused on delivering power and performance needed to complete full-depth reclamation and soil stabilization projects. According to certain reports, the stated products are designed to include an adjustable height design capable of cross-slope cutting. Talk about some practical features we can expect here, the models notably operate on the back of Caterpillar’s Cat C18 engine, which gives RM600 up to 17% more power than the RM500B, whereas RM800 is able to do better than RM600, in regards to power, by a sizeable 23%. Next up, taking a lot of inspiration from its creator’s cold planers for dependable cutting and mixing, the machines feature a belt-driven rotor drive system. This rotor drive, on its part, brings you a hydraulically actuated, heavy-duty clutch that does not require adjustment. Furthermore, the rotor in question can also be configured using bolt-on paddle toolholder protection for full-depth reclamation applications or wedge protection, thus reducing drag and enabling optimal soil stabilization. Coming back to the engine for a second, it even has an environment angle on the offer. You see, the engine’s cooling system bets on cool air intake to maximize fuel efficiency and reduce emissions. Such a feature proves useful in other areas too like helping the system cool more efficiently to extend cleaning and maintenance intervals. Here, the operator is given a single electronic control module to monitor engine performance and access relevant diagnostics. We referred to the point of efficiency, the new models deliver front-to-rear weight distribution optimized for stability in tough cuts, and a standard electronically controlled all-wheel drive is put to use for maximizing overall traction and mobility. In terms of absolute figures, RM600 and RM800 offer the power and performance to efficiently cut 2438 millimeters (96 inches) wide at up to 508 millimeters (20 inches) deep.
Boosting the models’ value proposition is a neatly-designed cabin, which has all the controls consolidated in one place to ensure quick and easy access. Interestingly enough, the cabin has those hydraulically sliding side-to-side capabilities that enhance visibility across the front and sides of the machine.
“Beyond our power, we have a new cabin and controls for these machines really taken from our RM400 with the latest cat electronics, user friendly controls, very easy to learn and very easy to operate,” said Mark Eiden, global sales consultant at Caterpillar Paving. “A caterpillar exclusive feature is our fully left to right sliding cab, which really helps the operator find that comfortable visibility whether they’re working from the right side of the machine or the left side of the machine.”
For visibility, the cabin also features a combination of standard and optional cameras that augment performance and safety. Among these cameras, standard front- and rear-mounted cameras provide configurable guidelines on the touchscreen display, while cameras mounted above the front and rear mixing chamber doors give operators clear visibility of obstructions and material gradation.
A big reason why both RM600 and RM800 are able to offer this efficiency is because of their versatility. One example validating the same comes through the fact that both models have four steering modes in total. The modes are front only, rear only, crab, and coordinated.
To rope in a level of intelligence within the picture, the machines feature built-in means for monitoring machine systems, alerting the operator of performance issues, and simplifying troubleshooting. There is also a Standard Product Link, which informs you on critical machine condition, provides operating and location data, and enables the use of Cat Remote Services.
